Since her fan-favorite performances in Season Two of The Voice of Germany Aisata career rose to fame
A powerhouse vocalist known widely for her electric stage presence, Aisata’s penchant for performance revealed itself slowly. Born in Amsterdam Southeast, Netherlands to a mother from the Dutch Caribbean and a father from Suriname, she spent her formative years surrounded by diverse cultures, eclectic music, and colorful Caribbean dance. But while she felt invariably connected to the sounds and styles that filled her home, Aisata spent years not knowing she could sing. It wasn’t until one afternoon, safe behind the locked door of her childhood bedroom and brimming with inspiration from her favorite R&B groups, that 15-year-old Aisata discovered her voice.
Propelled by a mutual love of group vocals, Aisata and friends soon formed a band. In this passionate, highly musical setting, her confidence flourished and her exceptional talent for tight, technical harmonies was revealed. For the first time, Aisata allowed herself to dream of a career in the performance arts. But when the group dissolved after six years together, she was heartbroken. Seeking normalcy and financial security, Aisata spent the next 13 years working at an airport, resigned again to only sing and dance behind locked doors.
Then, in 2012, a friend encouraged her to audition for The Voice of Germany. It was a risk – she had to take time off of a steady job she’d learned to love, she spoke only a few words of German, and she was afraid to open up her authentic, artistic heart to the world – but even still, something inside of her told her to proceed. Her stirring performances won her a spot on the live shows, and she left the series with industry connections and a rekindled fire in her belly.
Since her time on The Voice, Aisata’s career has snowballed. In the midst of rapidly increasing solo and group performance gigs, she captured the attention of casting directors and landed back-to-back lead roles in the German runs of several musicals.
Aisata’s rich, textured sound, from her smoky lower register, to her bright, soulful belts, up to her floating high riffs, make her the perfect fit for complex, pop-centric scores. Her grounded confidence, endless energy, and complete mastery of her instrument won over audiences during iconic performances as Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act, Rachel Marron in The Bodyguard, and Zahara in Bat out of Hell and legendary rock icon Tina Turner in the German production of TINA – the Tina Turner musical in Hamburg.
From October 2022 to July 2023 she can be seen in the role of Diana Goodman at Staatstheater Kassel and starting March 2023 Aisata can also be seen in Stuttgart, where she will be reprising the role of Tina Turner in TINA – the Tina Turner Musical, this time in the Apollo Theater.
